Rep. Cavitt: Keep men out of girls’ sports
RELEASE|March 6, 2025
Contact: Cam Cavitt

State Rep. Cam Cavitt this week demanded the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) comply with federal directives prohibiting biological males from participating in female athletics. Cavitt joined 17 of his House Republican colleagues in sending a letter to MHSAA demanding immediate compliance.

“State officials at MHSAA must be confused because President Trump didn’t ask their opinion when he ordered them to protect girls’ sports. He was loud and clear: Michigan is prohibited from allowing biological males to compete against our female athletes,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “MHSAA has a duty to honor that order and take steps to protect the integrity of female athletics.”

The letter, sent earlier this week, underscores that the recklessness of MHSAA officials may lead to federal funding being cut. Cavitt said this, paired with the ever-growing number of horror stories from female athletes about men invading their spaces, shows just how important it is for MHSAA to comply with federal regulations.

“I don’t care how infrequently our girls are forced to compete against biological males; one time is too many,” Cavitt said. “High school and college athletes throughout Michigan have spent years setting records and achieving new heights in female sports. It’s not fair for a biological male to come in and obliterate those accolades – sometimes to levels that aren’t achievable for true female athletes. I want my granddaughters to grow up in a world where they don’t have to worry about getting dressed in a locker room or being seriously injured by a man competing against them. House Republicans aren’t going to back down from this fight until we make that future a reality.”
