Rep. VanderWall attends 9-11 Memorial Ceremony on Capitol lawn
RELEASE|September 11, 2024

Rep. VanderWall today attended the House of Representatives annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony on the Capitol lawn.

The ceremony includes the ringing of a fire bell in memory of first responders and public safety officers who died honorably in the line of duty throughout Michigan in the past year.

During this annual tradition, legislators invite first responders and members of the military from their communities to be their guests for the service.

“It was an honor to welcome Manistee County Sheriff Brian Gutowski to attend today’s memorial ceremony,” VanderWall said. “We can never say enough to thank our public safety officers and first responders who keep us safe every day. September 11 is a fitting time for this ceremony, as we continue to remember and honor the heroes who responded to the tragic terrorist attacks in 2001.”

Brian first joined the sheriff’s office in 2007 as a deputy sheriff. Since then, he has served as sergeant for the Law Enforcement Services Division, the emergency management coordinator and undersheriff. In 2021, Brian started as the elected Sheriff of Manistee County.
